The Permanent KFD Virtual Sangha Talk and Announcements

So, google hangouts now allows permanent hangouts, where you have a hangout have a persistent address, so you don't need to create a new hangout, but can just ask someone to meet at the usual place. I created one for the Tuesday Night virtual sangha, and thought we could use that as a general meeting spot, so you could go there if you want to do some ping-pong noting, or if you wanna hang out and chat. Or you could announce a time where you are available to help people with their practice. I know we've tried having something like this channel before, sometime last year. Let's hope it works better this time.

This thread is for talk about the permanent KFD Virtual Sangha Hangout, and for announcements of things going on there, like "I'll be there at that time looking for some noting", or "i'll be there during x time looking to chat about dharma", et.c. The Tuesday Night Virtual Sangha will also take place in this hangout, and will be announced in this thread in the future.

I get a screen asking me to join google+ ( I already joined google.). Then none of the prompts work. Any suggestions?

No idea. I tried reproducing it by not being logged in, but that didn't work. A google+ account might be necessary. try logging in beforehand.

That link works for me. Browser type issue?

I tried another browser and still no luck. It keeps asking for my picture. Maybe I can't go further unless I come up with a picture.

Then it asks me to link google+ with my Picasso pictures. If I don't link the other option is cancel which puts me out.

I guess you just upload a picture to google+. Any picture.

I am not hooking up my Picasso pics with google. Do you two have a google+ account or just google?

Jack, I suspect you mean "Picasa" pictures, which is a Google app. You need to have a Google+ account, I believe, to join a Google+ hangout.

I think he means the fact that, signing up for Google+ with your current Google Account basically links your Picasa to Google+, and that has a few implications he may be worried about.

To solve that, you could simply sign up for a new google account and use that for Google+, without having to link your current Picasa and all.

Right, Yadid. That was my worry. I'm not sure your solution would work because not matter what account I use, my Picasa file is still on that computer. What I ended up doing was to sign up for Google+ using my laptop which does not have any Picasa files on it. By the time I meditated last night and came back to my computer, I got everything to work and hooked up to the KFD group site but no one was there. Ah well. Next time. Is this a place to be used only for Tuesday night?

Jackha: It doesn't matter if your computer has Picasa (the application) installed on it, so you can feel safe to use Google+ on any computer,
all that matters is that the User you use to sign up for Google+, does not have a Picasa (account) associated with it.

Well, i guess we will find out as we go along. The idea was that we could use it for lots of other things too. It may work better if you announce when you plan to be online. Then, you could, for example, log on and disable the microphone and camera, leaving just sound on. That way, you will hear if someone else enters. You could also just try going there and seeing if anyone is online, i guess we will find out over time whether that is a viable approach.

Sorry to miss you, Russell. I'll keep checking in at various times throughout the day and hope to see you and some of the other yogis there for some noting, some theory, and some encouragement. I'm thrilled to see so many serious practitioners here and would like to meet those of you I've not yet met and reunite with some of the old hands. I was able to connect with Villum today at the Google hangout and we noted together for about 15 minutes before life called us on to other tasks.

It has occurred to me recently that by far the best predictor of success (where success is defined as "happiness independent of conditions," aka "enlightenment,") is a burning drive to "get 'er done." So, for those of you who have such a burning desire: it will seem difficult and daunting at times, but you WILL get it done. Keep on keepin' on; enlightenment is a realistic goal for each of you and more than worth the effort.

Hey Aquanin. Kenneth did not give me a special empowerment to start up the european meets If you build it, they will come Now that no one has to set up the hangout beforehand, all that is needed is for someone to say "Hey, let's meet Tuesday at 20" (or whenever) seems good. For reasons of magic, i suspect that if you name the meeting something cool, more people will show up.
