Flip-flop goes the mind

I’ve been marveling lately at how often my mind flips and flops between contrasting opinions, thoughts, beliefs, feelings, etc. Getting caught up in the flipping and flopping can be very pleasant, or very unpleasant. In either case, the flip-flopping seems to bounce back and forth between extremes. However, when I notice that flip-flopping is happening, it’s not really a problem. Sometimes my mood changes quickly upon noticing the process; sometimes not. The one thing that appears to remain consistent is that I prefer my experience of being aware of the flip-flopping, rather than my experience of being unaware of it.
Maybe it’s because awareness allows the process just to do what it does, while I go on with my life. Being caught up in flip-flopping “jams up my gears”, so to speak. It makes me think there’s something I need to fix right now, which pulls me away from other, more helpful activities. One such helpful activity is laughter, which happens a lot more when I’m not all jammed up in unawareness.
Does anyone else see the humor in this process? Perhaps for some it's more of a dark comedy, but those can still be hilarious if one is in a compatible mood.
