Anyone interested in some guidance? was created by MuMuWu
I have some time to kill - and I figured I could fill it by helping people with something I'm fairly good at.

Anyone who'd like some help with their practice (I'm strictly talking working with Kenneth's 3 gears model) can send me a message. We can take the discussion over to skype or something because I find it easier to do in real time.

All the best,
Jayson

Kasina is easy really. Think of it more along the lines of fixing the visual field into an unchanging state. In other words keep the eyes centered on the object and then whatever happens and whatever weirdness you experience, do not move your eyes and if they do move, refix them such that the visual field goes back to the way it was.

Don't think of concerpts like attention or jhanas or anything, just fix your eyeballs on an object then notice the entire visual experience and keep it from changing. Return to the fixed position if the eyes move and return to the visual experience if thoughts arise.

At some point it will start to look very strange and unfamiliar, you will get strange sensations and start to see mental imagery in your visual field. Do not do anything but continue to have the visual field be fixed.

Ie. point your eyeballs at the object and keep them from moving. That's all you do. Don't complicate it with things like attention, mindfulness, etc. point your eyes, take the whole visual field as a fixed object and keep it from changing.

Thanks a lot for the explanation!

I still haven't really had any luck with it even though I feel that there are no thoughts distracting me from the object.

This is what I do and happens more or less though:

1. I am sitting in a dark room, a visual brown circle with a white background is loaded on my ipod a few meter away from me.

2. I stare at the center of the circle, after a few seconds my eyes seems to go out of focus, thus I am not staring at any particular point on the circle or directly at the circle at all.

3. I am not moving my eyes, however I keep seeing the circle in my mind (sometimes it's not really at my center of view, but way left, or right, or even more downward), sometimes it becomes 3D, sometimes it becomes very sharp or glows, many times it all goes blurry and can't see the shape of a circle anymore but just some brown blurry color on the screen.. a lot of times the object seems to move left, right, up, down, I just follow it with my mind.

4. When my eyes move accidently the object returns to it's normal form, so I stare at it again until my eyes goes out of focus.

I really hope this seems right enough..

I am quite familiar with the 2nd Jhana through anapanasati so recognizing the signs of when my eyes are about to cross spontaneously or blissful feelings will arise won't be really a problem I think..

Bottom line here is an old trick Kenneth taught me. Keeping your eyes from moving leads to concentration states. I was trying to give you an easy way to have that happen.

Slap your gaze on something and keep your visual field from changing - that's it.

If you want to do traditional kasina, fine. Stare at the thing for a while, close your eyes, see an after image, focus on that, if it fades - open your eyes and stare at the object again, etc.

I will just have to keep practicing this and see where it takes me.

I hope 'refocusing the eyes' when my eyes go out of focus or the object gets blurry won't kill the concentration to get absorbed.. because really it happens all the time every few seconds..

It's just that I never heard anyone with this kind of "problem", this makes me doubt if I do it correct or not.
