I'm being a real pain in the ass tonight. Sorry for that. But here's another issue I've been seeing and trying to absorb:
While meditating there is sometimes a phenomenon/process that occurs that I would call "wide screen viewing." This is best described as a slow process, starting first with just one object being observed and then the slow "acquiring" of other objects as the awareness begins to include the sounds and feelings and emotions that arise over the course of time. Ever so slowly it becomes apparent that the mind is creating a "reality" as these objects arise and pass. The mind is then observed as it performs the act of actually mapping its environment, creating a sense of position in space and time, defining its suroundings as it associates things that contact the senses with mental pictures or "meta" versions of those objects. As the view thus created slowly expands in scope it becomes very clear that every waking second the mind operates in exactly this way. This is the reality we live in - it's the assembly of the universe from the "parts" the mind perceives. It's a wide screen view of what we experience as we go through the day. I also liken this to a radar screen, the blips being objects and the tracking of the radar being the mind.
This is also very different from the simplest thing, also carrying little emotional content and not invoking that huge gush of love and compassion that the eimplest thing brings. This, too, is a more anticeptic ecxperience.
I suppose that's more than enough for now....
Peace.
