Hi Kenneth,
I just read this case study today. Very interesting as always. Thanks for posting it.
Do you know what Monica was referring to by "cherry bombs"? Is that something similar to the cracks I often feel and hear in my head?
Do you know what this phenomenon entails?
Thanks,
Amr

Hi Amr,
If I remember correctly, Monica was referring to real-life cherry bombs that were going off during a holiday. The cracking sounds in your head, on the other hand, are something that I am familiar with in my own practice as well as the reports of several others. They are always a bit of a mystery, but seem to be stage or state specific, a function of the way attention and energy interact. Actually, there are at least a couple of variations on this theme for me. One seems to be related to extreme sensitivity to sounds and the physical opening and closing of the eustachian tubes in the middle ear. Can you tell which ñana you are in when you notice the cracks? Do you notice them all the time? Can you hear them at will? Can you, for example, hear them now?

I'm not sure if it's related to a certain nana. In a formal setting it happens early on when I rest and start feeling the energy going to my head. I feel them often during the day as well. I came to associate them with a sense of relief or openness. One example yesterday it happened when I was looking at my youngest son saying/doing something cute and the crack in the head came with a feeling of love.
That crack in the head is analogous to the crack we feel sometimes in our backs or certain joints. Not just because of the feeling of relief, but also because they happen by themselves sometimes and can also be done at will but not so many times in a row.
Right now I don't feel or hear them.
