Meet Kenneth in New York City was created by kennethfolk
On the evening of Wednesday, December 9th, 2009, I'm going to be part of a panel discussion with Jay Michaelson, author of *Everything is God: The Radical Path of Nondual Judaism*. The meeting will take place at 7:00pm at:

East-West Living
78 Fifth Avenue
New York NY

Here is an excerpt from Jay's excellent new book:

"Nonduality is not only oneness... As a lived phenomenon, the experience of [nondual enlightenment] is one of "ratzo v'shov," running and returning. This experience is not one of an Aristitotelian golden mean, or some vacuous sense of 'balance,' but rather of transcending binarisms to include both sides of them. Sometimes we experience life as the ego tells us we must: as a separate self, with boundaries to be defended and needs to be met. Other times, we see this ego as being like a computer program, running according to causes and conditions, just like the trillion miraculous programs executing all around us at every moment. Or consider nonduality from the perspective of earth-based spirituality: sometimes, we feel at one with all, part of the great cosmic dance, the cycle of birth and death--and other times, we revel in our own uniqueness, our individuality, our humanity and sex and joys. Along such a path, we do not seek a midway point, somewhat godly and somewhat human, but rather a vibrant oscillation between the poles of everything and nothing, separation and union."

I hope to see you there!

Kenneth

This sounds really great. Will there be a recording to share later? (Hoping... since can't be in NYC)

Let me add my voice to the chorus: This event MUST be recorded! I hope it can then be made available on the web, or at the very least, for purchase on DVD.

The people have spoken!

Best wishes, Kenneth, for you and the panel. This looks to be an excellent event!

Regards,
Gozen

Hi Everyone,

Yes, it looks as though the event will be audiotaped, and I look forward to seeing some of you there in person. Here is a link to the page on Jay's site that talks about Wednesday's panel discussion:

Kenneth,

finals are kicking my ass... so I won't be able to make it. I also just wrote a paper on non-duality for my Mysticism class, so I need a break from all that conceptualizing for a little while.

I'd love to come see you speak another time, or just meet up for a cup of coffee. Please do let me know about the recording as I'm very interested in hearing it.. in a couple of weeks :)

Thanks, Stuart, Ryan, Beth, Stefanie, David, Paul, and all the people I didn't get to meet for coming out tonight! I thought the event went well and it was great to see you all there. Mikael, I'm sorry you weren't able to make it, but I hope you rocked your finals. Hopefully, we can do another NYC meeting soon.

Here is the link to the recording of Wednesday night's NYC symposium on nonduality:

Jay Michaelson speaks first, then Rabbi Jill Hammer, then I take a turn. Then, we go around again, with a few back-and-forths at the end.

Your mention of 'teflon mind' remind me of a quote from Joshu Sasaki Roshi when he was interviewed on his 100th birthday.

"The key to long life is to immediately forget things."

cbs2.com/video/?id=37265@kcbs.dayport.com

the video title is "Zen Master becomes Centarian", I searched for Joshu and found the video.

Welcome to the forum, Jin Lin, and thanks for the Sasaki-roshi link. I got a smile out of his comment, and you are right that it sounds like what I mean when I say "teflon mind."

By the way, dharma trivia buffs: Does anyone recognize the voice of the interpreter who is doing the Japanese to English translation?

That was going to be my guess...had I seen the video. I can't play it for some reason. Anybody using Firefox? Or Explorer?

Andrew, I'm using Firefox. It played all right for me. You have to do a search for Joshu, or centenarian, or some such, then click on the picture when it comes up in search results.

No, no-- I DID listen (though I went through several failed attempts before I figured out to use the TOP search field, not the second smaller one below. I listened because my first thought was that maybe it would have been 'he's our man' Leonard Cohen. And because I've been very fond of Sasaki Roshi since I read that he responded to a dumb question recently with:'I am 100 years old; these ears no longer hear stupid questions.'

I aspire to be a centenarian who 'works it' as well as he does. I read that he continues to lead numerous sesshin every year.
