Parami Mnemonic Sweepstakes was created by kennethfolk
My favorite Buddhist list is that of the 10 Paramis (10 Perfections of Buddhahood). The list is:

1: dana (generosity)
2. sila (virtuous conduct)
3. nekkhama (renunciation)
4. pañña (wisdom)
5. viriya (energy/effort)
6. khanti (patience)
7. sacca (truthfulness)
8. adhittana (resoluteness)
9. metta (lovingkindness)
10. upekkha (equanimity)

In 1991, at the Insight Meditation Society 3 Month Retreat, where I first learned about the paramis, I came up with a mnemonic device to help me remember them: Diet Softdrinks Never Put Valuable (K)oupons, Sacrificing All Material Undertakings. It doesn't make any sense, but it helped me memorize the list. More recently, I've been using Don't Sit Near Purple Virtuous Kangaroos. See All My Underwear.

What is your favorite mnemonic for the paramis? Let's pool our efforts. The person who comes up with the best one wins the admiration of all!

That's awesome, Gary! That completely makes sense to me - and should be taken as a micro-sutta on the path, ground and fruit of the Buddhist way. Being not a buddhist, however, the mnemonic is of absolutely no use or value to me, but I totally love your super cool micro-sutta!! ;-P

In kind regards,

Adam.

Hi Adam,
Even though you are not Budhist you should not exclude yourself from the 10 Paramis, so here is one for you.

I think this one gets my biggest vote so far, as far as both capturing the spirit of the paramis and staying easily in one's memory.

Thanks Nigel!

Let's see what else we can come up with.

Hi Kenneth,
I had earlier arrived at a similar mnemonic to the one below that didn't work. This fell out when it occurred to me Kenneth started with "K" !

LOL, Gary! That's wonderful, as was your first entry. In fact, I've been blown away by the fountain of excellence that has flowed from the collective pen. I think all of you are amazing. For sheer flow, memorability, and overall user-friendliness, I think I'll use AnnieChah's mnemonic for awhile.
