Don't mean to undermine the spirit of this community endeavor, but just FYI, one can block ads using free extensions for the Firefox browser, such as

NoScript

or AdBlock

Thanks, Brian, but I'd rather cut them off at the root, so that everyone can enjoy the ad-free site from whatever browser they use.

If everyone who has pledged sends it in, it looks like we'll be good all the way through September. So far, we've only been charged $20 a month, although I expect that to go up to $40 next time we're billed, since we've just gone over 40,000 page views per month. I didn't understand the billing structure before (and still don't) but all will be revealed in time.

If anybody wants to help us get through the rest of this year ad-free, it looks like we're only about 3 ad-free month adoptions (at $40 each) away from that goal.

Brian also mentioned ad blocking software. The idea, though, is to make the site as accessible as possible, so that even newcomers, many of whom don't use or even know about ad blocking software, can benefit. And since the ads are distracting and demoralizing, I think it's good to remove them entirely. I'm one of those naive individuals who doesn't use AdBlock Plus, so I would just suffer forever with the ads if they were not cut off at the root.
