anyway, as usual, this is a funny, sweet, informal and insightful talk that gives a different perspective on all the things we talk about here.

I met Mr. Weintraub once at Green Gulch just after he gave a talk. My friend was a long time SFZC student who seemed to know everyone and he asked Weintraub to show him the full poem by (probably Rumi) that he'd quoted in his talk.
So, he took us to his residence there at the Farm. Two things stand out:
1. The residence (that he shared with his priest wife and some children) was not very "zen." It was just a mass of stuff (books, magazines, newspapers, etc.)everywhere in no discernable organization. This made me feel better about him for some reason.
2. Everyone around zen center does gasso and bows upon greeting. When my friend introduced me to Weintraub I perversely put out my hand to shake. In mid gasso Weintraub sees my hand sticking out and with a look of great delight and amusement (this is how I remember it, he could've been thinking I was an ass) was able to change course and give me a hearty handshake.
