I found this very interesting.
"They believe the repetitive drone-like music will give them a '˜high' that takes them out of reality, only legally available and downloadable on the Internet."
"Those who come up with the '˜doses' claim different tracks mimic different sensations you can feel by taking drugs such as Ecstasy or smoking cannabis."
"Under one called '˜Shroom', Berecz wrote: '˜just listened to this... at the beginning I began to see some blinking light (while eyes closed), then the pitch went up and I began to feel that Im sinking into my chair...as the pitch went down I began to feel confident, and very relaxed, and I dont want to stand up from my chair and I dont want to say any words...'"

I read about that last week. The funniest part is watching youtube vids on some of these kids reactions to the music. Some of them really seemed creeped out by it.
I guess it is the same principle as binural beats that is used in meditation music. Except this i-dosing stuff can be more trippy in its configuration.
I only worry that this may be a gateway "drug" and could lead these kids to harder stuff like vipassana meditation.

Sounds like a lot of placebo. If some people are smoking weed and then listening to the audio, they can probably work the placebo effect a lot harder and really get into the world that the audio track is trying to create. Something similar could be done with a classical psychedelic. However, this would defeat the whole idea of trying to get high without introducing a chemical into the body.
AnthonyYeshe, we also have to worry about the new age movement acting as a gateway. You know, it always starts out with the soft drugs like self-acceptance, and The Secret. Then you start doing more intense stuff like energy work. And you start out with a little mindfulness -- just a little bit! Then before you know it, BAM! You're hooked on the really hardcore vipassana and jhana stuff! =)
