Pure Land jhanas

As Kenneth suggested in a thread I posted recently, my experience of 'no dog' has softened dramatically since experiencing a very violent cessation last week. There is a marked change in perception and energy in my body at the moment, as dramatic as my experiences of attaining to first and second path. I am already familiar with all eight jhanas and I have now entered new territory I find difficult to describe. So, here's my question: Can anyone describe to me the characteristics of the first and/or second pure land jhanas?

Watch these videos. They are of Kenneth and I going up the jhanic arc. Many yogis are resonating with the descriptions and experiencing them. They include the top 5 pure abodes. Maybe you could do the same. Plus there is an article posted here by Jackson in the guest writings section on how to access the first two pure abodes.

Paul, I second Nick's suggestion -- watching those videos will be very helpful for you. For me the Pure Land Jhanas are pure pleasure and accessing them after 8th is like stepping out of a dark tunnel into the light. The first time I was able to get there I could "see" a fuzzy "redness" and feel an extremely blissful set of sensations that started at my feet and slowly crept upward to cover the rest of me. Others are similarly pleasurable but I associate different colors and more refined sensations of bliss with each. Understand, too, that it's really hard to describe these things in such a way that any other person is going to relate to them very well without having experienced them. For me the power of the Kenneth/Nick video is in the sympathetic reaction it invokes every time I watch

Everyone is right... I read Jackson's helpful guide and that helped me access them for the first time. Nick and Kenneth's Video will help you a lot as well... enjoy the next phase... your golden shackles await...
