How's that for instant karma?

God, I'm fascinated perplexed and in awe of this guy. Of course, there is nothing wrong with what he says here. I could nit pick certain points for the sake of clarity and understanding (and I don't think there is anything wrong with that either) but of course this is a good message.

I've attended and been a member of several liberal "peace" (Christian) churches throughout my adult life and this talk would fit right in as a Sunday sermon at any of those congregations, maybe changing some of the stories from buddha to jesus -- though it would be okay to mention buddha at those churches.

While he touches on "awakening" quite a bit as almost an inspirational concept, this talk is NOT about enlightenment, it isn't a vipassana lecture. It is about "redemption" told from a buddhist-religion perspective and there is no way it wouldn't bring at least a temporary sense of peace to anyone who listened and took it seriously.

(Dude loves the word "heart" )

Another thing that is interesting (and this is not a complaint per se) is that his message is very political, from a liberal perspective, and he is, I think, preaching to the choir in that sense.
Of course I agree with his politics. To me this feature of his talks and his audience really puts him on a par with a liberal Christian minister.
I mean, people dont go to the Modesto Church of the Brethren (the church I still belong to but haven't attended since my last divorce) if they are more to the right. I've seen more conservative people go there basically by accident and they don't tend to stay long. The ministers actually say out loud in public in the US that war is never right.

Anyway, I imagine if he is leading an intensive vipassana retreat he probably just sticks to the techniques and keeps away from politics.
