kundalini rising was created by stephencoe100
Hi everyone. i'm new to this amazingly informative site and am just blown away by everybodies knowledge and itelligent opinions.

I have been meditating for about 3 years now and have recently experienced waves of energy rising up my back into the crown of my head and back down again. I

understand this is called kundalini energy. Does this signify that a certain stage has been reached? yours hopefully STEPHEN COE100

Hi Stephen,

Welcome to our site. The kundalini waves you are experiencing are normal and very much a part of this practice. They happen at various places on the Progress of Insight map and through all Four Paths and beyond, so in and of themselves, they don't tell anything about where you are. Can you tell us more about your practice? You might start with a brief overview, including any "big deal" experiences you may have had and why you are interested in meditation and enlightenment. Then, you could describe a typical sitting in phenomenological terms.

Thanks for the speedy reply Kenneth. I have been meditating on and off for about 5 years now but have been getting more serious in the last year.
About twenty years ago, in my early twenties, i had what i now think was a very strong kundalini experience after taking acid. This resulted in years of anxiety and depression which was relieved by anti-depressants and now meditation.
As far as any " big deal " experiences are concerned the first one i had was while doing insight meditation on emptiness of the self. My head felt like it was going to snap or explode. This was then followed by a sensation of a switch being flicked then a feeling of peace and contentment. All this was preceded by the thought-" If i'm examining the self then there must be two selves. If there are two selves then there must be a third self looking at the previous two and so on"........This resulted in the idea of the self collapsing into ridiculousness.
Meditation became much easier after this and i was able to access subtle levels of mind. the first level started with my body shaking and then my mind would be energised and blissfull. Each level of mind will start with shaking and usually, but not always, an image of a purple disc which expanded and pulsated until it filled my whole (minds) view. I will then enter a new level, each one more subtle warm and peacefull than the last.
The highest level that ive entered felt peaceful but with a cool feeling to it. This was also accompanied by a very solid feeling to it,like it wasn't ever
going to go. I also noted that my thoughts didn't form fully and internal dialog was not needed and had become redundant.
I dont think these levels of mind were jhana's as (apart from the last one) thought was possible and there was always a feeling that i could exit at any time.
Hope that this is helpful and not too garbled. Stephen
