Dealing with attachment and arrogance in stage of equanimity

Hi guys! New to the discussion board and am really excited to commune with my fellow brothers and sisters and spirits on this board! I just sat a deep 10 day vipassana meditation course and got into what matches perfectly daniel ingram's definition of high equanimity. All i want to do is sit (and ask questions about sitting, duh), have a sense that something big is going to happen soon, am seeing people for their absolute beauty and also the operation of the ego, and have a sense that i am looking at the most incredible painting for which I feel explosive beauty.

On the slip side my mind and body really like this stage (it's confidence and blissful feelings and lack of fear) and I am noting a lot of arrogance, craving, attachment, etc. So, i was wondering if anyone has advice for not getting stuck in this stage and moving to the next stage, first path, as quickly as possible. THANK YOU TO ALL!

Just continue to note it that's all. Note those thoughts.

I used to find a little bit of "who is attached to this" type questioning helped as well. No worries, just keep objectifying those things via noting and you'll be good. It may also help to do 4 foundations type noting (noting in quads) this tends to keep the mind busy so you don't get tangled up in that sort of stuff.

Hi Chris,

My first impression is to question whether you are in high equanimity, which may also unintentionally help you with the arrogance. :-) What you have described so far sounds more like the A&P. Self-diagnosis is not so easy as it seems. Will you let us help you? Post some detailed descriptions of your sittings using simple descriptive language and let's see if we can get a consensus.

Chris,

Whether it is equanimity or A&P - congrats! and condolences - you've passed the point of no return. From here on out you are a 24/7 yogi. It is great that you are reaching out for community pre-path, because it makes the growth that comes with it all so much easier to manage.

Another poster on this forum, Nik, has a wonderful essay on attaining stream entry that would be helpful for anyone beyond A&P.

That having been said, it would be good to get a little more info on what happens when you sit. Kenneth is wonderfully pragmatic, and likes to hear the nuts and bolts, the sensations experienced moment to moment. With that info it will be easier to figure out just where you're at and nudge you along.

Congrats again!

Ha! Yeah, every moment feels like an opportunity to awaken...it went to a discussion the other night, that is to say a very public event, and it felt like I was still on retreat. It's starting to feel that way all the time.

I'll join Ron in congratulating you in passing the point of no return! :-)
Now, there is ONLY one way out.........and it's at the end of the tunnel, buddy! Now the fun begins!

Looking forward to reading about your progress man. Remember, most of us have been there and done that, so feel free to ask questions and consult with Kenneth and the rest of us as much as needed.

Next stop: Stream-Entry! All Aboard!
:-)

I'd recommend more noting and objectifying. Use Kenneth's 3 gears model.

Objectify all cravings
Objectify all arrogance. What is arrogance? Its sensations and thoughts. Objectify the arrogant sensations and arrogant thoughts.

Practice 2nd and 3rd gear. If you can objectify the "self", then something else will take over from there. That something else is the Three Characteristics. Realize cravings and arrogance are impermanent, unsatisfactory and possess no self.

Specifically, at least in my experience, realizing that arrogance and cravings DON'T satisfy helped a lot.

Congrats!
