This is a matchmaking thread for partner noting. One of the most powerful tools in the yogi toolbox is noting aloud. And one of the best ways of noting aloud is with a partner. I do this regularly with students during one on one Skype sessions, so many of you already know how to do it.

Let's use this thread to hook up ad hoc pairs for this kind of teamwork. If you'd like to schedule a pairs session with someone, post to this thread with the times you are available to do it. Then others can contact you via private message to set it up. All you need is a half-hour or so, although longer sessions are also great. Partner noting is 100% efficient use of your practice time, because there can be no drifting or goofing off. Pace is important; you want to quickly work up to a pace of about one note per second per person. As soon as your partner has spoken his or her note, you speak yours. Easy, simple, and powerful beyond all reason. Let the partner noting begin!

I'll get in early here and say that I'm up for this, particularly for those in the same timezone as me (GMT). Just gimme a shout via PM!

Hi Tommy,

I find that time zones aren't much of a barrier and in fact having a round Earth is helpful. For example, if I am up at midnight and would like to note with someone, it's 12:00noon in Thailand. We have members all over the world. Somebody on this board is likely to have some spare time that coincides with mine. As long as we get our arithmetic right with timezone conversions, we can do partners noting with anyone with whom we share a language.

I've been doing partner noting with Kenneth during my one-on-one lessons and, recently, with a friend. I find it very helpful in pushing my edge. I find I can easily note with a partner at times when I usually don't meditate, when I'm really exhausted, for example. Another time, my body was just full of relentless awfulness the entire hour. I was pleased to be able to keep noting right through it. Alone, I would have quit, I admit it. But, I've seen what is possible, so I have confidence I can do more when noting alone. I think partner noting is a great supplement for one's usual practice.

I'm trying to do as much noting as possible, so I'd be happy to have more partners. I'm in the US Central Time Zone, but I keep unusual hours, so feel free to PM me even if you aren't near my time zone.

Edited to add that I find I'm not affected by what my noting partner says. He could be noting pleasantness while I'm noting misery, or vice versa. It is important to agree not to take what a partner says personally.

Hi Kenneth,

Sorry if that posting came across in any negative way, I only meant it to indicate whereabouts I am in the world. I'm more than happy to pair up with anyone at all!

I would like to pair note tonight any time from 5:00 PM CST to 9:00 PM CST. For this first time I would like to partner with someone who has done this before. PM me.

Bump! Several people have tried partners noting with great success. I encourage everyone to try it. The great thing about noting aloud with a partner is that you don't have to do anything special to get it to work. You just note aloud back and forth and the whole process unfolds just as it should. It's the continuous moment by moment attention that does the trick.

Many people here speak a native language other than English. Mention your mother tongue when you post your availability here, in case someone who shares your native language and maybe even your time zone would like to team up with you for a few minutes of noting practice.

Enjoy! This practice is as fun as it is deep.

I would be really interested in establishing a (more or less) regular slot for this with someone. Anyone want to start noting with me at 7pm GMT/2pm EST tomorrow and then make it a regular every-other-week slot? That way I'll get Kenneth one week and my yogi buddy the next!

PM or reply here!

I've done paired noting with Kenneth and with a dhamma buddy and have found it to be powerful.

I'm located in Nairobi, Kenya which is +3 GMT and am available most weekday evenings here around 19:00-21:00 or so. Weekends, too. I have an erratic travel schedule which makes routine scheduled Skype sessions difficult but would be happy to set up noting sessions on an ad hoc basis if anyone is interested. Send me a PM.
