Mindfulness bell, post-it notes, etc...

I was just wondering if anyone uses/has used for instance mindfulness bells on computers/cell phones, etc or post-it notes with reminders of being mindful (or any other similar stuff)?
I believe it has been mentioned in some practice threads long ago...
Experiences, thoughts?

Thanks!

i have a tattoo on my hand that says 'now'.

Not sure it helps anymore but it did for a while. It seems to help other people though...

When I note while driving, I usually use a timer set to chime every three minutes (I've graduated from every two minutes). See my very first post: kennethfolkdharma.wetpaint.com/thread/45...27s+practice+journal

Hi Meekan,
I have had mixed respones to both of these things. I had a mindfulness bell on my computer set for every 15mins. After a while though I found it irritating and switched off to it. I have a white board in my room and if come across a good quote I put that on there. I find it a good way to re-enforce ideas., current favorite is.
'You are doing it right if you clearly see what arises'
I work in a RIght Livelyhood shop and the shelves in the stock room are covered with slogans. Everything changes, practice like your turban is on fire, Every action has a consequence, to name a few.
I think the trick is to move them all about every month or so!

Check out Thich Nhat hahns Gathas......he has one for every sort of activity. ' washing the dishes I breath in and smile' that sort of thing.

Andy, what sort of timer do you have. It sounds like a great way to give time to all foundations as I tend to rest on the body and leave thoughts. I thought a little one for the car would be good.

@Wsh3: Cool, so now you and your hand are the mindfulness bell for other people! :-)

@andymr: Ahh, I actually read that post!

I have tried setting an app on the phone to chime around every hour, but I was thinking of finding a new way.
Thanks for your input, guys!

I use Equanimity on my iPhone. I wanted to stay away from something I had to reset every time, so as not to interfere with driving. I also use it to time my regular sessions as well. If you're interested, the author has a limited number of copies he gives away. See www.meditate.mx/iphone for details.

Hi, Ed!
Didn't see your post there :-) (we seem to have posted at the same time)
Interesting! I think you're right about moving 'em around to sort of refresh them :)

I have read some thich-books, but never really used gathas though.

I installed "Eye Relax" on my notebook that pops up for 5s every 15min. On my Android phone, I configure "Alarms" to chime every 15min. At times, I find the reminder timely. At other times, I may ignore it.

Nice! Eye relax sounds like a good idea for those long computer sessions.
It is funny, asking this question in the forum has triggered "mind" to remind me of awareness throughout the day.
This will surely fade, so maybe I should ask a new question in a couple of days :-)
