Hello,
A friend of mine recently coined a new term in our conversations about meditation and awakening. I've been telling him about a phenomena I'm subject to regarding ever changing identities of my self. It can pretty much be anything, but sometimes it seems as with the increased ability that I've gained to observe my own mind, and to disidentify with it, the content of my mind it self has really been taking on a whole new level of creativity. I find myself projecting myself into all sorts of scenarios regarding livelihood situations, hobbies and the people I hang out with, and the extent to which these scenarios radically change from one to a totally different other one is pretty wild. We came up with the term "identity party" for this. Perhaps as one is not so identified with one particular story about oneself, putting energy into maintaining some sort of constructed mental image about oneself, this self-image process itself can have a tendency to run wild, like an unleashed dog finally free to run wherever it likes?
Anyone else familier with this experience? Alltough I have some experience in observering this from distance, I do often get sucked into the stories for shorter or longer periods of time, and it can be frustrating having sort of my personal "software" bounce around as much as it does.
