Shinzen Young sent me (and probably the other few thousand people on his contact list) this:
www.rewireapp.com/
So far it's getting good reviews and still in beta mode. It's also on sale for 99 pennies.

I posted about this in my journal. This app is awesome. Try it. Especially when you don't have time for a formal sit.

I hope to, but the first step is to procure an I-Telephone or some other such contrivance.

It'd be neat if they added a kasina or candle flame feature. The kasina/candle could fade to black or change shape and you got tap the screen as soon as you notice. Practicing with that in a dark room would be cool.

Yeah, but I've got Android. I assume it won't work for that?

I have a spiral, bound note-book and pay-phones conveniently scattered across the globe. I doubt it'll work on those either.

I was in a meeting when I posted that last comment. Let me elaborate after using the app for maybe a total of 200 minutes either in bed laying down, sitting, or at the car dealership while I was getting service done. Really all it is, is you can take your music on you phone make a playlist, set it it a length of time and difficulty level (easy, medium, hard). Once you set this up it plays your music and randomly stops it and you have to touch the screen when you notice it, or it will vibrate the phone. It judges you on accuracy and reaction time when you are done. Here is the kicker, and I have talked to the maker of the app about this. When you first start a session, it makes you feel like you are in the Dark Night. AT least that's how it feels to me. I think it is because you are focusing/noticing the endings of sensations only. So when I start a session, I usually tense up, grimace a little, but once you get going, it is almost impossible to lose focus. You really, really concentrate well and it becomes automatic and you relax - deeply. It's kinda freaky how well it works. Feels like a good shamatha session when done. I can almost notice jhnaic qualities while doing it once i get in the zone too. I have only tried it on hard mode. If you are worried about the initial tension, try it on easy first, but for most of you this will be pretty easy.
Anyways, I highly recommend this app as a supplement to practice, when you have days like mine when I had to drive 6 hours for a 3 hour meeting and I am pooped.

Aw, man, just what I need: an i-phone snob. Or two. <sigh>
