I'm really not clear on the purpose of Vipassana practice during the review phase. Motivation to practice seems to be pretty low too. I've been spending a little more time with concentration practice (it's fun, but not a BFD), and trying to learn 2nd gear (still a vague concept to me). But my experience of cycling is not very captivating. I seem to go from mildly tingly body high straight to pressure at the crown, culminating in darkening pulling sensation and back to the beginning. I find myself doing one or two 'cycles' per day perfunctorily. Am I missing something?

During review my concentration was always really good too. It is a good time to work on jhanas especially after 2nd path. Start trying to see if you can look for what is after 4th jhana.

The witness (2nd gear) will make more sense once you have a good grasp on the 6th jhana as your focal point is very similar. Keep asking yourself 'who am I?' And see where your attention goes. This is where your attention needs to be for 2nd gear.

Thanks for the tip, Russell. I will try that.
