And I suspect there are many "places" in which a meditator can get stuck, not just in emptiness.

e.g., "I've seen the truth! I know it all! I cannot learn any more from anyone else!"

Humility seems to be dropped like a fetter.

Absolutely right, Tom.

A couple of decades ago, I was very involved in learning to train horses. In the course of my study, I met some wise masters of the art. During one seminar, the teacher was asked, “How long do you have to go back and start at ‘Square One?’”
The answer produced a shocked silence— “Every time. Every time you start at square one.”

Suzuki Roshi called it “.beginner’s mind”…
