Group Video Chat

A while back we had a few group skype calls that were great and I wanted to throw out the idea of doing some more.

I also just discovered a new group video chat software that is made just for this kind of thing and it's free. It available at

I think this might be a good way for us to connect. I'd love to chat and get more info from other yogis.

I'm in! Let's do a Socialeyes group video chat at 2:00pm New York time on Saturday. I just signed up for the service. You just log in using your Facebook ID and give Socialeyes permission to access your public data including your friends list. I read a review that says it works best for six people or less although up to nine is possible. Let's push the limit on it and see if we can make it work with nine, assuming we have that many who want to play. If you want to join in, just say so on this thread. It should be fun and we can talk dharma together for an hour or so.

OK, Nick and I just demoed Socialeyes and I'm ready to declare it the coolest thing ever. It's instant virtual sangha. The only thing I would say is that the noise cancellation is not as good as Skype, which just means that you are going to need a head set mic or at least headphones to prevent feedback. We started a group called KFDharma Sangha. It's by invitation, so if you want to be in it just say so and Nick or I will add you.

The service operates like a chat room, so people can log on or off whenever they want and other people can rotate in. It's the kind of thing that could be running all day for anyone to video chat with whoever else happens to be logged in at the time. Very informal and social. I love this because it's been one of my dreams for a long time to have a big house, kind of like Toni Packer's Springwater Center, where I could just make myself available to people in informal hangouts throughout the day to talk about dharma and awakening. Now we can do that with videochats, without even having to buy a giant house. Still, if anyone has a giant house, let's do that too.

I've been Chatting with Clayton, Nick and Kenneth today. This is a really neat thing. Hopefully more people start hanging out in there and it becomes a large part of what this community is about.

Anyone else having problems loading the site? Once I log in, I get the "just a moment" message and then it just goes blank.
I'm on Mac OS 10.6. Happens in Firefox, Chrome and Safari.

I'm using Mac 10.6.6 with Safari and the site is loading properly for me. Is this the first time Socialeyes has acted up or have you had trouble in the last couple of days?

Sounds like an issue with flash. Have you tried downloading and installing the latest version? Odd though, because flash is built into Chrome so it shouldn't be an issue with that.

It prompted me to update flash when I first logged in. It worked about half the time yesterday and none of the time earlier today. I think a reboot took care of it.
