I spoke too soon... it won't load now.

Nadav, I got the exact same problems at first although I'm on Windows and using Firefox. I left it for a few hours and it seems to work ok now although I may be speaking too soon....Ha! Hope you manage to get sorted out, I wish I could offer more advice as to how to fix it but I thought you should know that it's not just you who's had this problem. Maybe try logging in and out of Facebook or something?

EDIT: I spoke too soon. It's probably in 10th ñana or something. Ha!

Got myself a new webcam last night and I'll see y'all on the interwebs tomorrow!

What finally fixed it was updating the OS. Don't know what will help on Windows, but if anyone is having that problem on a Mac, try updating to 10.6.6

Thanks to Andy's suggestion, Kenneth and I just spent a few minutes noting back and forth in socialeyes. Awesome. Get on this thing, people! Geography is not a limiting factor in this sangha.

Yes, Nadav and I just had a great session of ping pong noting and I'm hoping some others will join and stay logged in to Socialeyes in some of their spare time. The ideal would be that there is always someone there to talk dharma with or note together or just hang out and get to know one another.

It looks like groups of 6 or more push the limit of this application. When we tried to do the big chat it just didn't really work, but when we broke out into groups of 3 in worked great. I'd say five is likely the limit of practical use with this.

Exactly why I'm not even slightly tempted. I'd love to get involved but not at the price of giving a site access to me and my info when I'm not even using their services! Call me paranoid but free isn't always without a cost, often a high one.

I created a new Facebook account just for this. Problem solved.

I'm not sure it's all that sinister. They need access to your 'data', so that they can show your profile picture and your name to your friends on SocialEyes. And they need access to the Wall so that they can add a little message saying that you've signed up to it, which is a bit of advertising for them, sure, but also a calling card to your Facebook friends so that they can come and meet you on SocialEyes.

I'm very cautious of Apps that I install on Facebook, but this one seems harmless.

Having said that, there's no way you'd know this is me or not... having signed my soul away to SocialEyes I am now just one of their minions.

I understand your stance Rev, but I think there's a line between being sensible and being paranoid. I think that Andy's made a good point here, and I think we really need to consider just what sort of malicious or untowards behaviour Socialeyes could engage in with such scant personal info, particularly since Facebook already have this and, if we were of a more paranoid disposition, we could suspect the same with them.

PEJN seems to have a pretty failsafe apporach and I think it would be foolish to miss out on the opportunity to be on the cutting edge of the Dharma at present, purely due to unfounded suspicions and paranoia.

Let's face it, if someone on the internet wants to f*ck with your personal info then they'll find a way around it whether you like it or not. What data do you have on your Facebook account which you feel could be compromised? What about adjusting your security settings?

Has anyone tried www.ivideochat.com/ yet? (I haven't) It says you can make a private room.

I'm not clear how socialeyes works. I've signed up with them and got accepted as a friend on Kenneth's Facebook. What next? Is the KF group deliniated from the other socialeyes members so I can go and see if anyone's from here is there? I want to try some verbal noting with someone else.

Bump for Jackha's post -- I've been friended by Kenneth on Facebook but can't seem to bring up the KFD chat room via a search (or the Hamilton Project room...or any other room, for that matter).

Any tips on how to get this thing to work would be much appreciated!

I should mention that i made another chat room called The Hamilton Project-An Open Approach to Dharma and it isn't a closed chat room. Anyone can join without being invited. So you could use it as a waiting room of sorts. People could congregate there and then befriend yoruseves as facebook friends and if someone is already a member of KDFforum chat room then they can invite the new addition.

Just a thought. And if it gets full in the KFD forum, just go use the Hamitlon one.

I've tried searching for The Hamilton Project room but to no avail. It seems that the search function is broken for me -- nothing comes up in any of my searches and I wasn't able to create my own room either (as a test; it says "that name is not available" or something like that for every name). I may contact the admins soon to see if there's something I need to fix on my end.

I'm not sure if someone can send me a link through social eyes, but my newly-created (empty) facebook profile is "Chris Anonpathein" - if anyone can contact me through social eyes, perhaps that would help?

Everything else seems to work on the site (I can get my camera working and so forth). Also, I'm running a Macbook Pro, 10.6.6.

Hope I can eventually get this to work so I can chat with you all ^_^

I've posted the above twice and I know at least one other person isn't clear on how to get hooked up with other people? Can someone please tell us exactly what to do once we are befriended and have the technical kinks worked out?

Hi Jack and Nick and Anon and David and Everybody. I've been checking in from time to time on Socialeyes today, but so far I haven't seen anyone else logged in. Until we get critical mass there, the key is going to be for all of us to keep checking in whenever we can during the day to see if anyone else is online. I know all of us have full schedules, so it's hit and miss whether we find anyone, but I think patience and persistance will pay off. Eventually, people in our group will get into the habit of checking in at Socialeyes the way you might check your Facebook or Twitter during a break from work. Even if you only get a hello and a quick chat with someone from our sangha, it's a delightful experience to get to know people with shared interests. And it's a start. This is how we build community. In time, I hope to see more and more people noting in pairs and supporting each others' practice.

Jack, I can't remember if you and I are Facebook friends. I think that makes the process easier. Try friending me on Facebook (or pm me with your Facebook name, because I just looked for you on my friends list and didn't see you there.) It may be that Facebook is the key to all of this. What has happened so far is that anyone who is my FB friend and also joins Socialeyes just automatically shows up on my Socialeyes friends list (and I on theirs.) At that point, I can invite you to join the group.

I think that Kenneth's idea of dropping in to chat is a great one - I've been pretty absent from the site lately, but I'm planning to log in and chat with whoever is there at various times throughout the weekend, if anyone is interested. I'm in Hawaii, so my schedule is usually a few hours behind everyone, but if you are on during the afternoon, I should be on in the morning Hawaii time on Saturday and Sunday.

Hope to chat with some of you then!

I've got similar difficulties Ron, particularly getting online at a time when others will be there due to time differences but I love the idea of just being able to drop in and chat randomly with other yogis. I work from 0600 GMT on a Saturday morning but hopefully I'll be able to get online this weekend too.

I really do think that what's happening here is unique, and a truly amazing development in modern dharma teaching.
