APrioriK, I love that phrase "turning the dead man's switch." Can I ask where you found it? I'm really inspired by this entire thread.

Hi Alejandro,
Wonderful translation of one language tradition into another....thanks. Recently, in my practice I notice just what you describe, the apparent 'unreality' of objects. The constant grounding of emotion produces a very subtle awareness of the spontaneous movement of mind, the arising of personal narrative to any stimulus opening a whole new area of practice after forth path. It is here I am beginning to understand more and more the implications of giving 'up the idea of survival.' I note I have not yet fully paid the toll, or completely turned the dead man's switch.

Paul: Yes, mindfulness of personal narratives, to me that's advanced meditation.

After establishing 24/7 mindfulness (deadman's switch) and paying the "ultimate" toll (complete surrender), personal narratives arise while one is in Direct Mode. These narratives are charged with emotions (pretty and ugly emotions), so in DM all of them are "grounded", or better yet: liberated in the purity of reality as it is.

This "purity" is the "unreality" of visible reality. It is the wise transparency. Why call it wise? because it disembeds constantly. Since we're not there (because we paid the toll), there is only wisdom at work: pure being.

The stories are instantly discerned as pure, truthful reality, right here, right now, as it is. BOTH the stimilus and the narrative it activates are liberated instantly. This, in my opinion, is 3rd gear.

Here's an excellent web article on the general topic.
